Chess of Blades

summary

The king is having a huge birthday celebration! Five days of dancing, festivals, and drinking, culminating in a grand masquerade ball. It just so happens that Rivian Varrison, the introverted son of a famous nobleman, is forced to attend this giant event by his father. By chance, or maybe something more deliberate, he runs into a host of colorful and shady characters, all with their own stories to tell.

But when a sudden and mysterious crime happens on the second day of the celebration, Rivian finds himself thrown into the middle of it, and has to discover the truth behind what really happened -- and who the people around him really are.

reviews

"TL;DR: Great protagonist, great art direction, great romantic chemistry, but weak story. Recommended if you're interested in gay romance. About 9.5 hours to fully complete."

Silas speaking to Rivian: I see. May I ask if you managed to meet with Sir Arden? He was very excited about seeing you.
Arden to Rivian: Come with me over here for a moment if you would, my friend.
CG of Franz grabbing Rivian from behind and leaning him against a balcony railing; narrator: The stranger's lips aren't far from my ear, and his warm breath tickles lightly against my skin.
Linnaeus to Rivian: I am a busy man. Why would I bother knowing the name of someone who goes around 'picking lint' off of people?
Franz to Rivian: Until then, stay on your toes... the most painful attacks come from teh most unexpected of places.
Rivian to Linnaeus: He is the furthest thing from a 'friend', let me tell you.
CG of Rivian holding hand up to hide from the spotlight; narrator: ...Damn it. I bet they're going to laugh at my hair.
